PSPL Surf Academy
Dear PSPL Surf Academy Parents, Players and Families;
First and foremost, I hope that you and your family are able to stay healthy and safe during this time. The safety of our players and our staff is paramount and we have taken the advice of Governor Inslee and health professionals in suspending play in the League and our PSPL Surf Academy.
Training March 28 – 29 is cancelled. We will work to make up the training time later in the year and will keep you informed as things continue to evolve.
At this time, we are still planning to travel with our Boys and Girls ’07 – ’03 teams over the Memorial Day weekend in May as planned. We are in touch with both of the tournament directors (Real Colorado and Cerritos) and both events are currently still planning to play. We have been in touch with the hotels, rental car companies and all of the vendors involved and have the ability to cancel our reservations without penalty if conditions prevent these events from going forward. Most airlines are offering penalty-free changes related to COVID-19 cancellations, but please be sure to CHECK WITH YOUR AIRLINE about their specific policies and purchase travel insurance for reservations if necessary.
While we are still planning to travel and compete in May as scheduled, we are also actively working on alternate plans for every age group to ensure that we have quality events for each of our pools as we have always intended. In the event that the May trips are cancelled, all travel fees paid for those trips will be credited in full to your account for future events.
We will be introducing our college planning tools and conducting online meetings with high school age players and parents starting at the beginning of April as scheduled. With the down time that we have now, this is a great time for high school age players to work on their soccer resume, research colleges and do some of the prep work to be ready to actively promote themselves to college coaches when we return to play!
For all of our players, this is a great opportunity to work on little things that get ignored in the rush of the regular season! Most great players will tell you that the best coach they ever had was a ball and a wall. Go out and work on your second favorite foot – get extra touches passing, shooting and receiving with your non-dominant foot. Set a new juggling record. Record yourself doing cool tricks with the ball and share the video with your teammates. Find ways to keep improving while you also get rested and healthy for a strong return when we get back to the field. Don’t let the opportunity to improve pass you by – take advantage of the down time!
We recognize that there may be conflicts with club and Academy events in the compressed calendar ahead. We will make every effort to offer quality training and showcase events for all of our players and will communicate as soon as any changes are made. Please do your part by communicating clearly with your coaches and by prioritizing events that best support the development and goals of your player.
I would especially like to thank our Administrative Team, Stacey Reeves, Marlon Mejia, Liliana Gomez and Trena Garrison for all of their work planning for all of our events, planning for how we would navigate cancelling events and planning for alternate events so that we don’t miss a beat once we get back on the field. Their efforts have been amazing through all of this!
All of us with the PSPL Surf Academy wish you and your extended family good health through this time. Please do your part to follow all of the recommendations of the CDC and other health organizations to limit the spread of the virus. With everyone’s help, we will be back on the field soon.
